(The heavy-duty nylon and padded straps and bottom don’t hurt, either.) The Synik comes in two sizes, 22 and 30: The 22 is smaller and better suited for 13-inch laptops, while the 30 can hold laptops up to 16 inches. “Grab your laptop by unzipping the main compartment like you would a regular backpack, or unzip the dedicated side zipper to get quick access from the outside.” It’s especially useful if you fly frequently since you can easily access your laptop (in a multitude of ways) for TSA checks and make use of its plentiful internal organization. “When it comes to laptop storage, you can choose how you want to get to your tech,” he says. Tom Wahlin, an editor and writer at Pack Hacker, says that while the Tom Bihn “gives off some dad vibes,” there’s a reason this style is such a classic. We made sure to look for bags that are durable, stylish, and don’t look or feel flimsy - that way they can handle any daily commute or travel.įits laptops up to 13 and 16 inches | Padded shoulder straps and back | Nylon There’s also a neoprene option that is lightweight, soft, and water resistant. Material: Waterproofing is a nice feature that can keep your computer safe and dry during a random torrential downpour, so many of the bags on our list are made of heavy-duty canvas, nylon, leather, or other synthetic materials, like Fjallraven’s Vinylon-F, which is weather and dust resistant. Remember: When you first put a laptop backpack on, it might feel lightweight, but after a 30-minute commute, the extra weight can take a toll (which is where the padding comes in). You might also want to look for one with a front-zippered pocket for storing cables, keys, pens, or other small items you’d want quick access to.Ĭomfort: Padding on the shoulders and back can do wonders for the body and help relieve some of the weight. If you need a bag that can double as a carry-on or you intend to bring your laptop bag to the gym, you should consider how many individual compartments it has and how much space it offers. Usually, a good bag will have an interior space (ideally padded) where your computer can be housed securely, safe from surface scratches and abrasions it might pick up if it rubs up against your keys or a zippered jacket.Īnother important aspect to consider is the amount of things it can hold besides a laptop. If you have a 13-inch Macbook Air, for example, you’ll want a laptop compartment that will properly house your laptop so it won’t shift. Storage: As far as proportions are concerned, laptop bags vary greatly, but the main thing you should look for is the size of the laptop compartment. For those unaccustomed to laptop backpacks, let us ease your fears: They’re nothing like the padded tech briefcases they used to be in fact, many of them could pass as standard backpacks or even high-end outdoor gear. Pre-pandemic, most of us left our computers at work each night, so it’s fair to say lugging a laptop back and forth - and acquiring the proper protection to do so - is a new reality. Understanding macroeconomics helps move organizations forward, but a grounding in microeconomics ensures day-to-day decisions are in the business's best interest. These types of courses introduce students to economic policy principles, the decision-making process from multiple perspectives, and how economic analysis helps lead a company. Students can also learn overall managerial fundamentals with courses such as Financial Decision Making for Leaders (BabsonX), Economics and Policies in a Biobased Economy (WageninginX), or Managerial Accounting and Corporate Control (IUX). Students learn what to do with scarce resources and other challenges and build business strategies for long-term growth. Students explore the types of market forces affecting business, including market conditions, supply and demand, and competitive pressures. Learn about managerial economicsīuilding a solid business strategy requires the right training. It looks at goods and services, investment decisions, and market structures through the lens of microeconomic theory and is appropriate for both profit and non-profit organizations. Using economic theory to ground business decisions is a way to bridge the gap between theory and practice. It relies on microeconomics foundations and helps ensure long-term success from multiple perspectives. This type of managerial decision-making relies on economic concepts to create a business environment where business economics ensures organizations build a solid foundation for long-term stability and growth. It combines economic principles and econometrics with managerial theory, looking at business decisions from multiple perspectives to ease long-term planning. Managerial economics involves decision-making with both short-term business goals and long-term economic growth in mind. The Decision Tree is delivered from this output port. The output of other operators can also be used as input. It is the output of the Retrieve operator in the attached Example Process. This description can be easily understood by studying the Example Process of the Decision Tree operator. Each leaf node represents a value of the label given the values of the input attributes represented by the path from the root to the leaf. The number of edges of an interior node is equal to the number of possible values of the corresponding input attribute. Each interior node of tree corresponds to one of the input attributes. The goal is to create a classification model that predicts the value of the label based on several input attributes of the ExampleSet. The representation of the data as Tree has the advantage compared with other approaches of being meaningful and easy to interpret. The non-binary splits on continuous attributes make the trees easier to understand and also seem to lead to more accurate trees in some domains. Although these repetitions can be simplfied when converting the decision tree into a set of rules, they make the constructed tree more leafy, unnecessarily deeper, and harder to understand for human experts. Using binary splits on numerical attributes implies that the attributes involved should be able to appear several times in the paths from the root of the tree to its leaves. If we have only categorical attributes, we can use any C4.5-like algorithm in order to obtain a multi-way decision tree, although we will usually obtain a binary tree if our dataset includes continuous attributes. Please study the documentation of the Subprocess operator for basic understanding of subprocesses. You need to have basic understanding of subprocesses in order to apply this operator. an operator that expects an ExampleSet and generates a Tree model. The subprocess must have a Tree learner i.e. The Decision Tree (Multiway) operator is a nested operator i.e. SynopsisThis operator generates a multiway decision tree. It started as a small gathering of friends who wanted to sell merchandise, original creations, second-hand items and so on and it evolved from something monetary to something with social value, where we exchange ideas and experiences and build a community that attracts people from different walks of life. The most well-received programme is an event called Future Market. We think that the residency is a mutual exchange, and we try to learn from each other, as a host and as a peer. The Project and Research residency programme is a self-directed residency, where 98B assists the artist with his/her project. From this limitation, we are developing how to show art in different ways to enable new encounters with our audiences. We don’t have a proper exhibition space, so every time we come up with a show, we have to envision possible spaces in the building, the street or even our storage space. Which aspect has come through more or been most well received? It’s a laboratory to build new relationships in the process.ĩ8B COLLABoratory has five major programmes: Project and Research Residency, Events, Exhibitions, Talks and Exchange Programme. We added the word “collaboratory” to show that as a space and initiative, we try to create new ways of producing works and at the same time work together with other people from different disciplines. 98B came from their address, where they hosted small gatherings with artist friends for casual discussions over food and drinks. How did 98B COLLABoratory come about? Who came up with the idea, and/or what precipitated the creation of this artist-run initiative and space?ĩ8B was initiated by artist Mark Salvatus and his wife, curator Mayumi Hirano in their small apartment in Cubao, Quezon City in 2012. It’s about inclusion, for everyone.Various 98B COLLABoratory projects. It is about reaching the people we haven’t yet reached, and supporting the ones we have, in the best ways possible. About doing these things for people who live in isolation, who are distant from the services and supports that our cities offer. About keeping food on the table of mothers, fathers, and children. It is about keeping a roof over the heads of the most vulnerable. The potential prize, the transformative end goal, is too important, too critical, to use traditional “projects to fix the problems” methods. The partnership between The Boldness Project and the Rural and Remote Community Legal Clinics is an initiative where we can aim high, be bold, pilot ideas, learn from our successes and our failures. It is for organizations and communities that have the courage and commitment to pursue breakthrough results. It is an incubator for transformative change, grounded in the belief that this can only be accomplished when we connect leading-edge knowledge with leading-edge action. The Boldness Collaboratory framework is purpose-designed to enable new configurations of experts and civic actors – from across sectors and across silos – to come together to conceive, design and develop initiatives that achieve greater well-being for people and place. Drawing on lessons gained from the world of successful Research and Development (R&D) labs and innovation enterprises, The Collaboratory model has been developed to both facilitate and accelerate social innovation at the organizational and community level. The Boldness Project offers a new model – The Boldness Collaboratory TM – for the pursuit of transformative social innovation. Left unresolved, legal problems have an impact on health and well-being, which will be lasting and far-reaching. Almost 40% of people with one or more legal problems report having social and/or health related problems. Why Boldness? What does Boldness have to do with including people who live in rural and remote areas within the system we call “justice”? According to the Canadian Forum for Civil Justice, nearly 12 million Canadians will experience at least one legal problem in a three year period. We are working on changing the experience of law and justice for people in rural and remote communities by creating an inclusive justice approach to the work we do and the work that our community does for people who have lived experience with poverty. Ping time can improve based on your download and upload speeds. Those included Frontier, Windstream, Optimum, Comcast, Cox and others. Generally, higher speed plans will have lower latency, as it takes the data less time to travel. The FCC reported in the latest fixed broadband report that the average “measured median latencies ranged from 8 milliseconds to 28 milliseconds” in the ISPs they studied. A ping time of 20 milliseconds or less is great while 20-100 milliseconds will give you a good gaming experience. Ping time, or latency, is more important for gaming than internet download speeds. There isn’t much left to pull from when your neighbors are all online, your kids and your partner are streaming and gaming and you are trying to hold a video meeting. Keep in mind, too, that having a mid-sized household on a 100 Mbps plan, while doable, may cause some issues during peak usage time for your provider. However, keep in mind that depending on what the four of you are simultaneously accessing online may lead to some lag in your video meeting or your child’s online game.Ģ00 to 400 Mbps plans may be worth the extra money monthly for some families simply for peace of mind that you aren’t going to freeze in the middle of that important meeting with your boss or lose all of your progress in the latest game. If you have a household of four people, you can most likely make do with a 100 Mbps plan. More than 90% of Allconnect readers who took our internet speed quiz stream TV daily, and more than 25% stream Ultra HD daily, which means fast internet speeds to them are closer to 100 Mbps. So what speed is right for you? The best download and upload speeds for you depend on how you use the internet at home. General home internet speed recommendations What internet speed do I need? In fact, the desire for faster speeds in the form of a fiber connection is becoming more prevalent in American homes, as reported by the FCC, “In 2019 alone, fiber broadband networks became available to roughly 6.5 million additional homes, the largest one-year increase ever, with smaller providers accounting for 25% of these new fiber connections.” 2 Most of us have internet needs that go a bit beyond the basic, like joining in video conferences, working and learning from home and online gaming, with multiple users in our household trying to access all of that at once on many devices. The Federal Communications Commission 1 (FCC) recommends at least 25 Mbps of download speed, which will allow you to check your email, browse the internet and watch a video, but on one device at a time. The wrong choice can leave you stuck when you don’t have enough speed and the spinning “loading” wheel becomes a norm, or when you’ve got too much speed and you’re paying for much more than you need. If you’re shopping for a new internet service provider, you may find yourself asking what internet speed do I need or how many megabits per second (Mbps) do I need? Choosing the right Mbps for your internet speed needs is a big deal. Shrug was approved as part of Unicode 9.0 in 2016 and added to Emoji 3.0 in 2016. It preserves the metaphor of your desktop being a place where you can directly manipulate your files and folders. (To be fair, the one company that's tried the "great, let's make a great product, kill off the competition, and then hold it there and reassign all the people" was Microsoft with IE6, and that worked fine up until Firefox and Chrome came around and then completely screwed them over.)ġ. It's like up till then you have room to improve, and then suddenly you've hit the pinnacle of product design in your category, but rather than hold it there, you have to make random changes so your employees have something to do and don't quit. There seems to be this phenomenom where good products seems to get better right up until they get mainstream adoption, and then they steadily get worse. It seemed to hit the sweet spot where you could do just about everything you needed to easily (it had collapsible tree views, folders, computed folder sizes, drag & drop, copy & paste, labels, etc.), but it didn't try to hide things from you or restrict what you could do, it didn't get too fancy and guess at your common tasks, it actually showed your filesystem instead of Apple's prescribed guess at what your filesystem should do, and it was still simple enough that you could wrap your head around exactly how it worked. When it comes to look and feel, "It's better to look good than to feel good!" The frustration is that unlike them, Apple could do so much better, but ever since the candy-colored iMacs, they've decided that Fernando (Billy Crystal's old SNL character) was right. And yet the rest of the industry is so fragmented that they don't do any better in terms of usability. Now, it's all about the style, about how the edges look in fashion magazines. Can't you work on this, Apple? "Thinner!"Īpple used to emphasize software quality and usability. Or, the apps get worse, not better, over time, and you always have to ask yourself whether each free OS upgrade is worth the risk of unreliable WiFi. Or, why is the text on my iPhone suddenly so low contrast and hard to read? "Surely you agree that having a fresh look matters more than readability! Look, the icons are flat. Surely you agree that the appearance of a thin edge is more important than usability of Finder or connectors." I mean this more metaphorically than literally, but I'm so tired of complaints about the ridiculously primitive Finder being met with, "the edge of the iMac now appears even thinner, now that we've repositioned formerly convenient connectors and such into a bulge behind the screen. Because you can't really tell how well software is working when looking at the device edge-on, and that's apparently the way Apple looks at them most of the time. |
